haven't seen a trip report yet from gwen, but i did post some pics on my site from the nantahala trip 7/18-20. the kids and i enjoyed watching the group along the way, especially the carnage at the falls. hopefully you'll hear the tale of the entire group's fate on the last day!
i have pics up of some of the kayaking and roll practice in a lake.
and lots more from our hiking and backpacking.

I was saving the trip report for the newsletter, but here goes...

Nantahala Trip – August 18-19

In actuality, the trip lasted from Friday until Tuesday, in some form or another. On Friday, Matt Cary paddled with the NOC. On Saturday and Sunday, the whole crew (Bob Arend, Greg Martin, Matt Cary, Allen Lundy, Steve Flynn and Gwen English) paddled the Nanty – the good old cold and reliable Nanty. On Monday, a skeleton crew of Bob, Allen, Steve and Gwen paddled – Mondays on that river are delightful because it was almost like having a private river! On Tuesday morning, a motley crew of Bob, Steve and Gwen hiked at the Tsali Recreation Area before heading home. There were mutterings about “Bataan Death March”, but I think the mutterer was just showing off his knowledge of history.
The weather was so hot that we had no campfires – hard to believe, given the personnel, but true. Turkey Creek Campground has upgraded its bathhouse to five-star status, and I don’t think I can ever stay anywhere else.
As far as carnage reports, “What happens on the river, stays on the river”. However, I will volunteer that Patton’s Run could be renamed Lost Paddle, but the paddle turned up at a raft company after a day and a half.

Nothing with this group stays on the river so don't fool yourself! The 'too hot for a campfire' is the reason I stayed home in the AC. I'd have been a crabby girl had I been there. I'd rather paddle in the snow.

Do you think she would have liked that trudge through the fallen snow at Sugarcreek last winter?

Sounds to me like she's begging for a winter snow hike! We'll have to remind her of that comment when there's a couple feet on the ground!
