The Aug/Sep combined OAC meeting will be held on Sunday, Sept 2nd. Tentative start time is 7pm. Look for the OAC banner near a large campfire.
The date is being changed from Saturday to Sunday so that Club members can attend Don Shepherd's memorial service at Frank's Bait Shop.
On the agenda: Officer Elections. Nominations are still open - if you don't like the way things are going now, this is your chance to make a change!

First off,
I would like to congradjulate our new officers. I'm sure they will do a great job. But holding an officer election on a club trip is not right. Not everyone is able to attend! I suggest next year votes be cast on the new website, or the Christmas party. I don't think the handful of people that go on one trip should speak for all. The candidates weren't even posted! Has the OAC adopted it's own Patriot Act? Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to be an officer. But I would like to know our choices. Once again, Congrats.

Steve,
I agree that not everyone can come to the trips, but the same holds true for "regular" meetings.
There were more Club members at this meeting/trip than we *EVER* have at a "regular" meeting. I would estimate that there were at least 25 members at this particular meeting. Generally we have 10 or fewer members at the "regular" meetings.
Officer nominations were listed in the August newsletter and the newsletter clearly states that you could contact Gwen English for an absentee ballot.
If you don't like the way things are being run, you should run for office in 2009.

Has the OAC adopted it's own Patriot Act?
First off, that offensive comment is neither appreciated nor necessary. You have NO idea how much unrecognized hard work the OAC officers put in as you have never attended a membership meeting, or to my knowledge a club trip. I understand that you have some concerns, and I would be happy to address them if they are presented in a mature and legitimate manner.
In the future, before you publicly insult us, I suggest that you take the time to do some research so you don't level false accusations. The officers put a lot of time and thought into making sure that this club is operated to accommodate all members. To even hint otherwise or outright tell us that what we do isn't "right" is not only obtuse, but completely inappropriate coming from someone who didn't want to be an officer
Again, the officers welcome any and all feedback, and will address all concerns. Personally I must insist that that the complaints be grounded in reality and not insulting. And in the words of the great Kathy Sines:
If you don't like the way things are being run, you should run for office in 2009.

First off,
If it was offensive I'll apologize. I congradulated you folks before my comment.I also said,"I don't want an office". The officers ran unopposed. Why vote in Sept. in West Virginia? Just seemed a little wrong to me. Anyway, I just wanna paddle, the heck with politics.

Steve,
I found your post offensive too. If you really weren't interested in politics, you wouldn't have stirred the pot by posting the first message.
It would help your case if you would take the time to read the newsletters and spend some time with club members - either at meetings or on trips.
The elections were well advertised and held in accordance with the Constitution of the OAC.
If anyone is interested in reading the Constitution, we are working to convert the hard copy version to an e-copy that can be posted to this website. If anyone has a burning desire to read the Constitution, I can copy and mail it.
As Michelle stated, all of the officers are open to constructive comments. Just keep in mind - these are VOLUNTEER positions. We are giving up our free time to keep this club going so that you WILL have some one to paddle with.
